Glucotrol XL Is extremely effective in treating type 2 diabetes when it is used along with a proper diet and exercise.

Glucotrol XL must be taken 30 minutes before a meal. Avoid charcoal–containing medicines within 2 hours of using Glucotrol.
Medications are prescribed according to a dosage schedule which must be completed in order to reap the benefits of the treatment. Lapsed schedules render Glucotrol XL ineffective. So, never stop in between unless advised by your physician.
One of the best ways to ensure that you do not miss out on a dose is to maintain a fixed regime for consuming Glucotrol XL each day.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Glucotrol XL is used to treat conditions like type 2 diabetes along with diet and exercise.
You must maintain a schedule for taking the medicine at the same time each day so that you do not miss out on any doses. But, in the advent of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember so that you can compensate for the loss of the dose.
But, then you may need to adjust your remaining doses accordingly. And if it is almost time for the next dose, then please skip the missed dose and continue with the normal schedule.
Never try to compensate for the missed dose by taking a double dose together. It may cause adverse effects.
Glucotrol XL must be stored at a cool and dark place that prevents it from direct exposure to sunlight. It should also be protected from kids and pets. You can store it at room temperature at 68 – 77 °F (20 –25 °C).
If you are allergic to any ingredient in Glucotrol XL (you may check medicine label) then please do not use it without consulting your doctor.
You must also avoid using Glucotrol XL in case if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Glucotrol, if you are debilitated, have a high fever, have a severe infection, have suffered from severe trauma (eg, injury), or will be having surgery, if you have certain hormonal problems (eg, adrenal or pituitary problems), an electrolyte imbalance, acidosis, or high blood pressure, have stomach or bowel problems, severe diarrhea, or are malnourished , if you have liver, kidney, thyroid, or heart problems ,if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding.
Ensure that your doctor is aware of your past and current medical history before you start any new treatment or medication. This must include any and all diseases that you have suffered /suffer from, all subscription and over the counter medication that you are taking, including vitamins and herbal supplements. This will help avoid a possible interaction or allergy.
In some cases, the medication might be altered or require special attention if you suffer from conditions like alcoholism.
Glucotrol XL is known to make some people dizzy or drowsy. And if you consume alcoholic beverages, then the chances of this happening increase greatly. Hence, alcohol and alcoholic beverages must be strictly avoided while taking Glucotrol XL. If you have experienced drowsiness after taking Glucotrol XL, then avoid tasks that require mental alertness for example, driving, handling heavy equipment or machinery etc.
Diabetic patients are always advised to carry an ID card on their person that mentions about their diabetic condition and Glucotrol XLs they are using currently. This information may prove to be invaluable in certain scenarios.
Glucotrol XL is not to be used for treating Type I diabetes.
Diabetic medications like Glucotrol XL work most effectively when they are combined with lifestyle changes like regular exercise and a healthy diet.
Constant blood sugar monitoring must be carried out in diabetic patients. If you find that your blood sugar levels are not improving despite using Glucotrol XL, then contact your physician immediately.
If you are experiencing rapid heartbeats, vision changes, headaches, chills, or tremors, hunger, then please note that these are signs of low blood sugar. This is a common situation that can be avoided by consuming all meals and medications on time. Never skip a meal or a dose of medication.
Also quickly consuming a source of sugar (table sugar, honey, candy, orange juice, or non–diet soda) is the first aid for low blood sugar. Consume it and then seek medical attention.
Glucotrol XL is not be used during last month of pregnancy.
If you are planning to have a baby or are pregnant already then you must seek advice from your doctor before using Glucotrol XL. Discuss the effects and possible risks that Glucotrol XL usage may have on the unborn baby.
If you are breast feeding your child, then too seek medical advice before using Glucotrol XL. Some drugs may be excreted in the breast milk and may harm the baby.
